Tombstone, AZ

We spent some time adventuring around Walmart and watching Frank try to play video games on all of the TV’s before heading to bed. We woke up early to be first in line to have the van serviced but we still waited almost two hours for an oil change and tire rotation. It was a later start than we wanted, but we finally got on the road to begin our 7.5 hour drive to Scottsdale, Arizona in the mid afternoon.

Our first unscheduled stop was at a little ghost town off the highway called Steens. As you can imagine, it was pretty dead…

We continued on with our drive only to be detoured again when we saw a sign for Tombstone, AZ. If you know anything about Tombstone, it’s the location of the famous shootout at the O.K. Corral with historical figures like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. When we passed the sign for Tombstone, we looked at each other and no words were needed. We couldn’t pass up another opportunity to prove to ourselves that we’re actually cowboys.

Shortly after our arrival and quick wardrobe change, we realized that everything in town was already closed except the saloons. In the midst of our little saloon hop, a young girl walked up and tapped Jarrid on the shoulder and said, “Are you guys real cowboys?” We may have told a little white lie, but in our minds it helped solidify our lifelong dreams.

Cheers to being a cowboy

While taking a few pictures of some of the buildings on our way out of Tombstone, a town Marshall pulled up. We asked him a few questions about the jail, which happens to be the original building and jail cell used in the 1880’s. The same jail cell the Wyatt Earp used to be in charge of. Once the young officer realized our interest in the building, he offered us a chance to come inside and lock each other up in the cell and gave us a private tour and history of the building. Once our tour had ended, he gave us each a Tombstone Police patch and deputized us with our own mini Marshall’s badges. This day could not have gone any better.
